My name is Hannes Galero and I am a member of Team Malawi for Stichting Beter Malawi. I live in Chidothi village, about seven kilometres from the Mawa community, where many of our projects are based.
I am married and a proud father of an eight-year-old son. I studied Education and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education, specialising in Business Studies and Computer Studies. I work as a secondary school teacher, and I earn my living through my government teaching position.
What is your role within Beter Malawi
Within Stichting Beter Malawi, I serve as the School Fees Project Officer. I am the first point of contact for the School Fee Project and closely involved in projects related to primary and secondary education. My role includes communication, coordination and reporting, ensuring that students receive the support they need to stay in school.
What motivates you most in your work?
What motivates me most is seeing how our projects improve the lives of people in the community. Witnessing the positive impact — whether for young people or elderly community members — gives me great satisfaction and hope for the future.
What dream do you have for your community?
My dream for the Mawa community is to see more educated youth equipped with practical skills, better learning environments at secondary schools and surrounding schools, and an overall improvement in living standards. I strongly believe that education is key to building a stronger and more sustainable future for our community.
